Chic & Socially Conscious

71_03_orange_harp_davidpeck_bali_dressThis dress has to be one of my favorites I’ve worn all year. The printed front is stunning, and while I have no idea where exactly the print was taken from (it’s a beach, that’s all I can tell), it is definitely furthering my wanderlust! T_T

71_02_orange_harp_davidpeck_bali_dress This is actually a shift dress (as seen here), but on little 5’2″ me, it was down to my knees and entirely overwhelmed my petite frame. This happens to me quite a bit (#shortgirlproblems), and when I haven’t had a chance to get alterations done, I employ the “hide-the-belt” trick. It’s really simple: wear a thin belt around your waist, and then pull the dress up a few inches so that the extra fabric can fall and drape over the belt, hiding it from view. With this method, you can quickly adjust the length of practically any dress to your liking! It also makes the dress look like a two-piece top/skirt set.

And for the icing on the cake, this dress is made by a socially-conscious designer using low-impact printing methods and organic, fair trade and natural fibers!

I found this garment on the iPhone app Orange Harp, a small company that works with sustainable goods-focused tastemakers to curate the best products in a marketplace for fashion, accessories and personal care — which, by the way, includes chocolate!

Those are some examples of the variety of clothing and jewelry styles Orange Harp carries.

orangeharp_highlightsShopping via the app was a fun experience, as there are several different ways to explore through the variety of products and brands. Viewing the “Highlights” tab will give you curated lists of products with specific themes like “New & Noteworthy Fall Picks under $50” and “Products for your Morning Routine.” These themed lists are updated frequently, reminding me of shopping on sites like Gilt and One Kings Lane.

orangeharp_brands1You can also browse via the Brands tab, where Orange Harp summarizes what makes each company great in one sentence.

orangeharp_whyweloveWhen diving down deeper into a specific product, you can also find more information on each company and what makes them socially-consicous. I personally love this!

orangeharp_products And of course, there is the traditional search route where you can filter through all the products by type.

Through Orange Harp, I have discovered a whole world of socially conscious makers and a greater appreciation for shopping sustainable goods. Whats more, part of this company’s mission is to also give back to the community. With every purchase, the company donates 1% of sales to Not For Sale, a non-profit organization fighting to end human trafficking. How can we not support a company like this? 🙂

Happy Monday and Happy Shopping!

Love this! I couldn’t even tell that you put a belt on until you talked about it. I definitely need to try this, especially since almost everything is too long on me. You look gorgeous and I really love this print. That also sounds like a great app and I definitely need to try it.

Great dress and the tuck in the belt trick sounds cool too 🙂 I guess the dress is featuring one of the beached from Bali!!!
